Too much awesome in one picture!
I love everything about this photoset
The lack of condescension in cultural sharing
The contextual foreignness of firm breasts in a society that doesn’t use bras
This is funny and charming
My grandfather once went to visit a Masai tribe and he was so excited to show my mother, uncle and grandmother all about how they live. My grandmother averted her eyes and called them “African sluts”. It’s all about how one’s raised.
When James and I were in South Africa, we visited the Zulu tribe. James had stayed them in the past so we were comfortable and safe. But during one of the celebrations in our visit with the tribe, they wanted me to wear a beaded top they had made that really looked like an elongated necklace. I was so hesitant because of my surgery scars, and when James explained that, a few of the women gave me hugs. They told James that people would love me there and that I shouldn’t be sad. I was almost in tears as they put it on me and gave me a headpiece.
I remember you telling me of this and that you had a surrounding group of women to look over you. I was almost in tears
They’re like “so perky”
